I seriously think that when the Square Enix people had to come up with Organization XIII, they sat around a big table and went something like:

Top Guy: Now, we need to make them pleasing to the fans. So... what are the fangirls into these days?
Random Guy: ...Emos! They seem to be interested in that whole quiet, depressed, against the world thing.
Top Guy: Ah! Excellent! Put that down.
Put-That-Down Guy: Yes, sir.
Top Guy: What else?
Other Random Guy: Our latest research has shown the uprise in yoai fangirls... so, how about a gay guy?
Top Guy: Perfect! Put that down.... and give him power over flowers! That's gay right? They'll love it!
Put-That-Down Guy: Um... how about just power over all plants?
Top Guy: Flowers will be fine.
