Phence is a bookworm and calm minded most of the time. More so when not around Rowan, whom he has sought after as a family/brother/mentor figure. Phence is young, but wants to become a great scholar of sorts. He was doubtful of ever getting to that level and was saddened by this until Rowan happened along and "forcibly" convinced Phence of his capableness. Phence was kind of shook out of his depression and followed him until Rowan accepted his companionship (didn't think a kid tagging along was such a good idea) in his vagabond journey.

Phence serves as Rowan's balancer. He gets (or attempts) to talk Rowan out of ridiculous antics or at least make him think them through. He also serves as a go-to for knowledge. He may be young in appearance, but Phence much older in mind, and is smarter than the average kit. Helping Rowan with his book knowledge as Rowan teaches him his life knowledge.
In battle, Phence is the brains of their brawns. Using more technique.

Going through homelands that may serve useful to Phence's quest for knowledge, he usually stays on hiatus there, while Rowan continues on.
Phence and Rowan meet up again either by; word of mouth about the other, running into each other, Phence going out looking for Rowan, or Rowan going back looking for him.

Besides being calm or busy. Phence is known to be sarcastic, frustrated (in a mothersome way), courteous, and helpful. And due to Rowan's provoking; childish.
He has a bit of trouble talking to girls around his age. Flustered and either acts overly courteous or just frustrated.
