The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

I'm like, totally serious. Anyone who flames you, i will track down and kill. I'm doing the same for snapesnogger..

They flame her because on y!gallery, she drew naga porn. She eventually got banned for drawing girls. Then, whenever people would send her flames, she'd get her fanbase to flame them back. that eventually got a bunch of people not liking HER (now her art isnt even in the story) to send her death threats and even make a HUGE page on Encyclopedia Dramatica about how horrid she is. Its just... horrible. I read it and got to mad, i've never been so mad in my life! She didnt do anything other than yell at her flamers (which got her fans to flame them) but does it even matter? They hate HER, not her ART, then they yell at her on deviantART! Its not myspace! I dont see why they do that! And now she's left deviantART permanently, and supposedly she has a new page and is starting over.

I'm so pissed about it. I just ranted to my mom about it and just... ugh. She was amazing. And from my experience, pretty nice too. Idk. I just relate to her because we have similar family circumstances and stuff, and the fact all those people do that to her really makes me mad and depressed at the same time. I feel like my head's going to explode. How dare they all do that to her! She didn't do anything to them! Have you read what they said about her? [link] It keeps randomly getting deleted and brought back, so if its blank when you see it, just wait a minute and reload it.
