Okay, so I'm sure you've heard about the Orphan Works Bill.
Appearently though, I've been finding and reading the freaked out articles.
Actually, It's an old bill that hasn't been passed yet.
But it's rumored to be dug up again, to help the government get more money by making artists pay for copyrights. Sorta what they were/are planning to do with HD TVs..
Rumored.
The chance of it being passed are slim. Though, it keeps being revised and debated over. Still a threat in some ways it's also has it's goods, so I've heard.

"Quite simply an "Orphan Work" is a term used to describe a creative work whose author who cannot be identified and located by somebody who wishes to use the work for some purpose." "Basically, it's about ability to Google artworks, take them and sell them, if you "can't find an owner"."
Or abandoned work that's wanted for use and stuff.

Better explaination ---> [link]

Just wanna cover all bases. I'm more afraid of loopholes for art theives more than anything..
Still helps though, to sign the petition either way. xD   [link]

If you'd like to hear more about it, you can listen to this interview, [link] .

IF YOU HAVE MORE INFORMATION THOUGH, COMMENT ON THIS AND TELL ME. KEEP ME UPDATED. I don't wanna get stuff misunderstood~  D:

While the goverment says they are just helping libraries and museums use "abandoned" artwork, the biggest loophole is that companies can use art work in their advertisements without paying royalties to any artist unless the artist pays a licensing company to add the artwork to the database. This is outrageous, epecially since most people who churn out hundreds of drawings and photos a year don't have that type of spending money.

Actually, in an online article I read (I lost the link, sadly :( ) it said that there was a really high chance of the bill coming back into effect with a few modifications (all in favour of the art thieves, still) and there's a high chance of it passing because no one (and by that I mean the creative community) bothered to say they didn't want it last time. :shrug:

It's weird that only one country is doing this... I mean, internet is universal! Would that make it illegal to take works of those, who don't have that law? I guess no, and it's just so frigging unfair!
